The mass loss method allows the use of data logging if you have a suitable balance and software.
The gas volume method can give some very good half-life graphs, although it is not uncommon to see students getting results with a decreasing half-life. It is worth stressing the value of the gas syringe and trying to avoid them being dropped or crushed in a clamp!
