Clamping apparatus

Clamp stands come in two pieces and will need screwing together. The clamp itself is attached to the stand using a boss. It is important that apparatus is clamped firmly, but not so tightly that it breaks. It is generally a good idea to clamp just under the lip of any glassware. If you are heating the apparatus try to clamp as far away from the heat source as possible.

Clamps are often cushioned using cork or rubber - if you heat too closely to this protection it will catch fire.

Try to clamp with the weight of the apparatus over the base of the stand. If you do not clamp over the base, the weight of the apparatus can tip the stand over. Place your mouse over the image to see the effect of unstable clamping!

Use the clamp stand to direct any rubber tubing clear of any hot areas like the tripod and gauze. This will prevent the tubing from burning.
