What mass of potassium hydrogencarbonate is needed to make 100 g of potassium carbonate on thermal decomposition?

The equation for this reaction is:

2KHCO3(s) K2CO3(s) + H2O(l) + CO2(g)

K2CO3 = 138

\ number of moles of K2CO3 = 100/138 = 0.7246 mol

2KHCO3 º K2CO3

\ number of moles of KHCO3 = 2 × 0.7246 = 1.45 mol

KHCO3 = 100

\ mass of KHCO3 = 1.45 × 100 = 145 g
