Literally meaning nucleus lover. This is a neutral molecule or negative ion which is attracted to a positively charged area within another molecule. Nucleophiles have a lone pair of electrons which is attracted towards the positive centre. Some examples of nucleophiles include H₂O, NH₃, alcohols (ROH), OH ^-, CN ^-.
