Saturated solution

When a solid (the solute) is dissolved in a liquid (the solvent) a solution is made. However, there is a limit to the quantity of solute that can dissolve in the solvent. This maximum quantity will depend on the solute, the solvent and the temperature. When no more solute will dissolve in the solvent the solution is said to be saturated. It is important to give enough time for the solvent to become saturated. It may appear that no more solute is dissolving, but left stirring overnight it can be surprising how much more solute will dissolve. If we measure the concentration of a saturated solution this will be the solubility of that solute in that solvent at the particular temperature involved.
