The photochemical bromination can be speeded up by using additional lighting. Under the lights used for the video the bromine colour disappeared in a couple of minutes.

Materials:

Hexane (20 cm3) 2% bromine in hexane (1 cm3)
0.1% bromine water (2 cm3) Liquid paraffin (4 cm3)
Aluminium oxide (5 g) Glass wool
Bright light or sunlight Glass or plastic trough
Test tube Delivery tube
Test tubes and bungs (3) Dropping pipette
Bunsen burner Heat-proof mat
Laboratory jack or substitute Glass rod and scissors
