Lack of iron in the diet is a common cause of anaemia. This can be corrected by taking "iron" tablets, which contain ferrous sulfate, now known as iron(II) sulfate. In this exercise, we analyze the iron content of two such ferrous sulfate tablets. |

Two ferrous sulfate tablets were ground to a paste with 1 M sulfuric acid using a mortar and pestle. The paste was made up to 100 cm3 in a volumetric flask with further 1 M sulfuric acid. After thorough mixing, 10 cm3 samples of this solution were titrated with 0.00200 M potassium manganate(VII) solution. The average titre was 23.30 cm3.
