Study Plan for Practical Work
The first experiment investigates the buffering power of the amino acids. The second is to illustrate the use of the polarimeter. It is possible to use amino acid solutions in the polarimeter, but the rotation tends to be small and the solutions are expensive. It serves the same purpose to use the sucrose and fructose suggested below.
Materials:
| 0.01 M hydrochloric acid (5 cm3) | 10% w/v sucrose solution (10 cm3) |

| 0.01 M sodium hydroxide (10 cm3) | Full range indicator (a few drops) |
