The reactions of ethanoyl chloride

Acyl chlorides contain the -COCl group, and are some of the most reactive organic chemicals. We shall be looking at the reactions of ethanoyl chloride with water, ethanol and ammonia. Watch the video and note that these reactions are rather vigorous compared to most of the organic reactions we have met so far. Try to write equations for each of the three reactions and then check them here. You may find it helpful to know that the same gas is given off in each case - this gas was tested for in the video using ammonia gas.
