This is so called because it is cone-shaped. Because of its shape it can be swirled reasonably vigorously without losing the contents. This makes it ideal for carrying out titrations. It can also be used for heating reaction mixtures - its narrow neck reduces the loss of liquid by evaporation. It is available in a wide range of sizes. Common sizes used in schools and colleges are 100 cm3 and 250 cm3. The volume markings are only approximate, so shouldn't be used for accurate work. |
