C = 12, H = 1, O = 16

C12H22O11 = (12 × 12) + (22 × 1) + (11 ×16) = 342 g mol-1

1000 g of C12H22O11 = 1000/342 = 2.92 mol (to 3 sig. figs.)


568 g (1 pint) of water

H = 1, O = 16

H2O = (2 × 1) + 16 = 18 g mol-1

568 g of H2O = 568/18 = 31.6 mol (to 3 sig. figs.)


0.174 g of sodium carbonate

sodium carbonate = Na2CO3 - if you got this wrong check the section on ionic formulae

Na = 23, C = 12, O = 16

Na2CO3 = (2 × 23) + 12 + (3 × 16) = 106 g mol-1
