Teacher and technician notes (2.7.2bii)

I always remind students about how to smell carefully here. Rapid inhalation of chlorine is not a healthy activity!

Chlorine water has a habit of losing its potency on storage. If it hasn't been freshly prepared it is important to check that it has a detectable chlorine smell.

Materials:

Saturated chlorine water (2 cm3) 0.02 M bromine water (2 cm3)
0.05 M iodine in KI (2 cm3) 0.4 M sodium hydroxide solution (5 cm3)
Test tubes Dropping pipette
