Teacher and technician notes (2.7.2dii)

This is a good class practical which should further develop students' observational skills. It is important to stress that we are looking for an observation as soon as the two solutions are mixed. Silver chloride can change colour quite rapidly in a bright lab and this often leads to some incorrect "initial" observations.

Materials:

0.1M silver nitrate (5 g) 0.1M potassium chloride (12 cm3)
0.1M potassium bromide (12 cm3) 0.1M potassium iodide (12 cm3)
8M ammonia solution
Test tubes (6) Test tube rack
Glass rod Dropping pipettes
