The Thermit reaction

You should have worked out the following equation:

Fe2O3(s) + 2Al(s) 2Fe(l) + Al2O3(s)

Fe2O3 = 160, so 100 g is 100/160 = 0.625 mols

Fe2O3 º 2Al

\ number of moles of Al = 2 × 0.625 = 1.25

Al = 27

\ mass of Al = 1.25 × 27 = 33.8 g
