Students should not be using hydrogen cylinders, but may have generated the gas in a chemical reaction. Oxygen-hydrogen mixtures are particularly explosive and should not be ignited, particularly in glass apparatus. Small amounts of hydrogen in a test tube can be ignited as the basis of the test for hydrogen. Wear eye protection. Do not breathe the gas in. |
