Oxidation reactions of the halogens

All the halogens are powerful oxidising agents (fluorine being the strongest) and will oxidise most metallic and non-metallic elements. They also oxidise a variety of ions to higher oxidations states. The following demonstrations show a variety of these oxidation reactions.

Video - chlorine and iron

Video - bromine and aluminium

Video - iodine and aluminium

Video - iron(II) and bromine water
