I usually take this opportunity to discuss solubility and the relative quantities of solvent and solute. Otherwise students often use such large quantities of solid that it would challenge the solubility of even the most soluble of substances.

Materials:

Magnesium oxide (0.2 g) Calcium oxide (0.2 g)
